One night at work in the NICU, I was watching a father helping the nurse give his little baby a bath. They had the little girl all swaddled up, and the dad was holding her while the nurse washed the baby’s hair. The little girl was not enjoying the experience and began to cry. The dad spoke gently to her and said, “It’s okay sweetheart, just look at me, it will all be alright.” He repeated this phrase several times, and after a moment the child began to calm, her eyes fixed on her daddy’s face.
Those of us who were nearby and overheard this exchanged started to melt – such a sweet, tender moment between a father and his child!
In the same way as a frightened child looking to her father, when I am afraid, I can look to my Father, who has promised me that He will comfort me (Isaiah 66:13), strengthen (Isaiah 41:10), and give hope (Psalm 42:5).
24 “The Lord bless you and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
26 The Lord [a]lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.” ’
Jesus, I pray that I will continue to look to You for comfort when I am afraid.
LOVE that you are writing again, I sometimes think it is a form of therapy to say things out loud or on paper it makes them more real in our minds. Love hearing that story again.
